📖 Silk Road Summary Class 11
The Departure: The author leaves Ravu to undertake the ‘Kora’ (pilgrimage) at Mount Kailash. A local woman named Lhamo gives him a long-sleeved sheepskin coat (a drokba) to protect him from the freezing cold. He travels in a car driven by Tsetan, accompanied by Daniel.
The Journey through the Mountains: They drive through vast open plains where they spot wild asses (called kyang) and gazelles. As they go higher, they pass dark tents of nomads guarded by huge, ferocious Tibetan mastiffs. The journey becomes extremely dangerous due to heavy snow and icy roads. The author suffers from severe pressure build-up in his ears and head due to the high altitude.
The Grim Town of Hor: The group reaches Hor, a miserable, dusty, and dirty town located near the sacred Lake Manasarovar. The author is deeply disappointed because the place lacks vegetation and is filled with rubbish, completely contradicting the beautiful, holy legends he had read about it.
